Real Madrid has tied the Champions League round of 16 second leg with Manchester at one apiece! Karim Benzema’s header puts Real behind by one on aggregate.

Real Madrid has tied the round of 16 second leg at one thanks to Karim Benzema‘s header after a stunning cross from Rodrygo Goes! The Big Benz now has five Champions League goals on the year with this his first since the 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in late November.

The setup from Rodrygo was simply stunning as the young Brazilian winger dribbled past Joao Cancelo and placed a perfect ball in the box for Benzema to head past Ederson.

The build up to the goal was stunning as Real Madrid found room down the wing and used Rodrygo’s pace to get in behind. The visitors have had immense trouble passing the ball and moving freely through the middle of the pitch and it will take individual efforts like this once to create goalscoring chances.

It has been Pep Guardiola’s press that has suffocated the Real Madrid midfield and caused all the early mistakes, but this brilliant move has given plenty of hope to Madridistas. Los Blancos now just need one goal to put the round even on aggregate.

Rodrygo was the surprise inclusion in the lineup tonight and he showed exactly why Zinedine Zidane started him on the right flank instead of Marco Asensio.

Rodrygo has been clutch in his first Champions League campaign and proved why he is worthy of a place in such an important match.

Based on the way City has set up for this match and the lack of possession Real Madrid has had today – 54 percent to City and 46 to Real Madrid – it is evident exactly why.

We should expect to see substitutes come on some time soon in the second half to provide a spark. We just need one more goal!
