Germany

The World Cup title holders made a shock exit out of the competition, not making it to the Round of 16. But this has been the case in four of the last five World Cups, so don’t be too hard on the Germans. Things never really seemed right with this side from the get-go. In their first game, they would lose to Mexico 1-0. Defender Jerome Boateng would be sent off in the second game. Against South Korea, they struggled to score losing 2-0.

Next: Toni Kroos fails to make it to Round of 16 with Germany

Toni Kroos

With Germany out this means Toni Kroos is headed back home. The midfielder gave it his all, but his team was not on the same page. Individually Kroos has some great stats to flaunt. Let’s not forget his incredible stoppage time winning free kick against Sweden. It’s a pity we won’t get to see more of the industrious midfielder but he will have a well-deserved rest.
