Three takeaways from Real Madrid’s 4-2 win over Espanyol

Luka Modric and Karim Benzema are hitting their stride
Two players who Solari really needs to have step up here at the business end of the campaign are Karim Benzema and Luka Modric. The two veterans were the creators on the offensive end of the pitch for the entire first half.
Benzema scored in the fourth minute as he followed up a shot from Modric. Espanyol goalkeeper – and former Real Madrid goalkeeper – Diego Lopez could not handle the powerful shot from the midfielder, and The Big Benz was right there to follow in the shot.
The number nine found the back of the net again just before halftime, bending a shot into the far corner with perfection.
Benz looked like the younger version of himself with the way he was contributing in the midfield and being in the right position at the right time in the 13-yard box. With his two goals on Sunday, Karim has nine league goals and 14 goals total this year.
Modric’s performances in the match against Sevilla and the match against Espanyol are a beautiful sight for us fans. Let’s hope he can keep this form up moving into the Champions League knockout stage.
