Previewing Celta Vigo vs. Real Madrid

The time has finally arrived Madridistas! A new season is upon us with a possibility of leap frogging FC Barcelona in the opening week of the La Liga Santander. Here is a full preview ahead of Real Madrid‘s trip to face Celta Vigo!

Real Madrid faces a Celta Vigo side that has had success against them in the past couple of meetings. Last season, Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo in both home and away fixtures.

This year for Celta Vigo will be slightly different. Maxi Gomez has departed the club for Valencia. Santi Mina is a bright young star. Unfortunately for Celta Vigo, he is out with injury. That means the heavy lifting will fall on the shoulders of striker Iago Aspas.

Despite poor performances in the preseason and some struggles in defense, Real Madrid is expected to be able to contend in the league and be a threat in Europe. I say this for two reasons.

One, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale were the leading scorers for Real Madrid. Second, adding Eden Hazard to that attack should bolster and distribute goals between them.

Hazard will miss his first competitive match as a Real Madrid player due to a hamstring injury suffered earlier this week. In his place, we still be seeing a lot of Vinicius Junior on the left flank. Before his injury last season, he has shown us his abilities on the pitch. It will be very interesting to see what he does at full health in his second season at Real Madrid.

Before I dive into my predicted starting lineup, I would like to touch up on the 3-5-2 formation Zinedine Zidane put out against AS Roma. In short, it does not work.

The reason for that is because any team with 2 or more strikers or wingers can slice through the midfield. Then it becomes 4 versus 3 in the attacking third, and it does not turn out too well.

My predicted formation is 4-2-3-1 for tomorrow’s match.

Next: Three transfers that won’t happen before the window closes

My predicted lineup for that specific formation would be:

Courtois, Marcelo, Ramos, Varane, Carvajal, Kroos, Casemiro, Isco, Bale, Vinicius, and Benzema

Substitutes: Miltao, Navas, Odriozola, Modric, Jovic, James, Vazquez
