Eder Militao is breathing down Varane’s neck:

Stepping in for Raphael Varane in todays game, Eder Militao put in a fantastic performance. The Brazilian was solid with his tackles and consistently covered for Dani Carvajal, displaying his brilliant athleticism time and time again.

Completing 1 tackle, 1 interception and 3 clearances, the former Porto man also displayed solid ability with his passing. He completed 95% of his 68 passes alongside a 50% accuracy on his long ball attempts.

With such an all-round ability, it seems the Brazilian more than capable of starting in the Madrid backline. This is something Varane may be nervous about, whilst he has had good performances this season, a mistake against PSG has seen him come under fire again. Should Militao continue to impress like he did against Alaves, there is no reason to go against the idea of him starting more over Varane.
