Real Madrid will travel to Camp Nou to take on FC Barcelona on Wednesday, and here are five players on Los Blancos who must shine in this battle for first place.
Despite looking far from convincing, FC Barcelona head into Matchday 18 as La Liga’s leaders. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona drew over the weekend against quality opponents, with Los Blancos barely securing a 1-1 tie against Valencia after a last-gasp equalizer from Karim Benzema.
Real will have to be much more consistent on Wednesday at Camp Nou against a Barcelona side that boast one of the world’s most dangerous attacking trios. Meanwhile, Madrid’s attacking trio isn’t at full strength, as Eden Hazard will be out with an ankle injury and Gareth Bale may not be 100-percent due to a recent hamstring injury.
Here are five players on Real Madrid who must shine in order for Zinedine Zidane‘s side to get a positive result at Camp Nou.
Arguably the best player on Real Madrid in the 1-1 draw against Valencia, Thibaut Courtois made a goal-saving stop against Ferran Torres on the counterattack and commanded his six-yard box well. Courtois has been excellent since the start of November, as he’s returned to his top-class form from his Chelsea days.
Facing Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, and Lionel Messi, Courtois will be called into action many times on Wednesday and will likely have to make at least one save similar to his stop against Torres on Sunday.
