Eduardo Camavinga is one of the most talented young players in the world right now, and the Rennes midfielder has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a few months.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to jump on signing the best young players in the world before they are known commodities and viewed as superstar players. He was able to purchase Brazilian teenagers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo early, and both wingers look like future Ballon d’Or candidates. Rodrygo even had a perfect hat trick in the Champions League against Galatasaray at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Perez has seemingly identified Rennes defensive midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as the next big star, and it’s easy to see why. Camavinga has put up massive numbers in Ligue 1 this season, even though he’s only 16 years old.
According to L’Equipe’s Damien Degorre, Real Madrid are very interested in Camavinga, but he won’t come cheap. Los Blancos aim to make an offer for the France international next summer, but Rennes will do whatever they can to hold off an early bid from the La Liga powerhouse.
Real were linked to Camavinga in the Fall, so this latest report only serves to highlight how interested Perez and Zinedine Zidane must be in the teenage phenom.
According to WhoScored.com, Camavinga is averaging 4.3 tackles per game and 1.6 interceptions per game with a pass completion percentage of 87.5%. Those are ridiculous, Team of the Season numbers for anyone, but they are especially insane for a 17-year-old playing that position. Camavinga is basically putting up similar numbers to Real Madrid star Casemiro despite being 10 years his junior.
Real need to save up money for Kylian Mbappe, whom they were unable to sign from Monaco as a teenage sensation. Perez doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice, but if he wants Camavinga, he’ll have to pay Rennes a premium asking price.
Fede Valverde has been a breakout star in the middle of the park for Los Blancos, and the team has plenty of interest in young Ajax star Donny van de Beek. But Real need an injection of talented youth to their midfield, especially when it comes to a strong defensive presence. Casemiro needs help in the defensive midfield, and Camavinga could be an ideal signing in the summer transfer window if the price works out.
