Real Madrid have reportedly been mulling over terminating their two loans to Real Valladolid due to a complete lack of playing time, and it looks like their top goalkeeper prospect could play for a club legend at UD Almeria.
Los Blancos sent three players on loan to Real Valladolid in forward Jorge de Frutos, defender Javi Sanchez, and top goalkeeping prospect Andriy Lunin. The loan deals made sense, since Valladolid are owned by former Real Madrid legend Ronaldo, and it seemed like these three players would get regular playing time.
However, only de Frutos has played a single minute for Valladolid this season, and he’s only had 56 minutes of action. Meanwhile, Sanchez and Lunin have yet to play, so Real Madrid have been considering terminating these two loans so that their young players can get valuable playing time elsewhere.
Lunin’s development is of particular importance to Real, since the Ukrainian keeper is seen as a future star at the position for Los Blancos.
According to a report from COPE, via Infinite Madrid on Twitter, Florentino Perez is ready to end Lunin’s loan deal with Valladolid. UD Almeria are seen as the early favorites to land Lunin on a new loan deal during the winter transfer session, which means Lunin would move from a club owned by Ronaldo to a club managed by another Real Madrid legend in former star midfielder Guti.
That could be a great fit for Lunin, especially since he should be a regular starter for Almeria. Even though Almeria are in the second league, they are a highly competitive team in second place. So if Lunin’s loan deal extends to 2020-2021, he could be playing in La Liga anyway.
Valladolid should have no qualms with Real Madrid terminating Lunin’s loan deal. They aren’t playing him anyway, and it’s important for Ronaldo and the club to maintain a good relationship with one of Spain’s two most powerful teams. They can still stand to benefit from future loans, even though they frustratingly didn’t make good use out of a talented goalkeeping prospect in Lunin this season.
