Although Real Madrid couldn’t find the breakthrough goal in El Clasico, they still definitively outperformed FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona played out a goalless draw at Camp Nou on Wednesday, but Los Blancos were clearly the better team at El Clasico. La Blaugrana can consider themselves fortunate to still be in first place in La Liga, because Real dominated the midfield and suffocated Barca’s high-priced attacking trio. And they did it all without their best player in Eden Hazard, who has missed several weeks with an ankle injury.

Here were the top five performances from Real in their confidence-inspiring performance against Barca on the road.

CB Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid’s captain put his body on the line in the 31st minute to stop a scorching shot at the goalline to preserve the draw and the Thibaut Courtois clean sheet. Sergio Ramos has been one of the best center backs in La Liga again this season, and he even played through the second half with a sprained ankle, which may have occurred on that exact play.

Ramos led his defense well, as he played a key role in taking both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez almost out of the game entirely.
