Real Madrid vs. Manchester City: 5 burning questions before Champions League match

4. Federico Valverde or Luka Modric?
Ali Al-Hassan
As mentioned earlier, it’s difficult to pick either one of the two. However, I think the best option would be to start with Fede then bring on Modric during the second half.

Fede Valverde. Luka Modric is a fantastic player, but Real need someone who can make quick ball recoveries in the midfield. Valverde’s engine will be more important, especially when starting counterattacks. It’s a tough call, but they need the extra defense and pace.

As I alluded to in my previous answer, Fede should start this game. His intensity and relentless energy will be massively important at both ends of the field. Luka would be a good choice for the latter stages of the game to maintain control and attack space.
Nithanth Ravindran
I would go with Fede Valverde simply because the old trio hasn’t looked convincing to me whenever they’ve played together this season. I think the best option would be to use Modric as a substitute against tired legs and help the midfield assert themselves late in the game.
Rahul Desai
I have to go with the rising star, Fede Valverde. The future is bright for him. I appreciate all that Luka Modric has done for Real Madrid. One of the best midfielders to play at the club.

Fede Valverde will be my pick to mop up things defensively and not allow City’s attack to dominate the possession as they’re used to. Fede’s performance will be a key to Real Madrid’s chances of going through the tie as he can break the play and can make those line breaking runs which can catch any opposition by surprise. Any team in the world will be annoyed to face an engine who can constantly keep running tirelessly helping the defense as well.
