Ferland Mendy

After the 2017-18 season, Brazilian left-back Marcelo is having a hard time getting his world-class form back. In the summer of 2019, Real Madrid made a move for Ferland Mendy from Lyon on a six-year contract for an initial fee of €48 million.

Mendy made an impact in his first season at Madrid, outplaying Real Madrid legend Marcelo. Mendy played most of the season and helped Madrid in attacks and defensive phases. Zidane showed his faith in Mendy and started him in big clashes in Europe as well in the Spanish league.

What made Mendy superior to Marcelo? I think his defensive abilities. Marcelo is an offensive player, of course, he helps in the defense – not to forget that tackle on Messi in Clasico. Mendy has shown his top-level mentality and has earned huge respect in Madrid. It’s clear that the French defender will continue here in Madrid for the next decade with the enthusiasm he is showing for the club.

Many young players are loaned like Takefusa Kubo, Reinier Jesus, Brahim Díaz, Daniel Ceballos, and Jesús Vallejo, whereas there are the young guns who are with the squad like Eder Militao, Luka Jovic, and Marco Asensio. All these lads are amazing talents, and everyone has their unique style of playing. Some of them might be future of the club, but looking at the current circumstances, the five players I named look most likely to have the tag “future of Real Madrid”.
