Isco isn’t contributing much anyway

Let’s be honest here. From a personal perspective, many Real Madrid fans will miss Isco. Some have scapegoated him and will be happy to see him go, but the truth is that most have a soft spot for Isco, especially when they remember his sheer brilliance in 2016-2017.

But Isco has not been close to that level in a while. In 2020-2021, he was nowhere near that level. Aside from a few decent outings, he never had a truly great game and made a minimal impact for Los Blancos. He’s already on the outside looking in, as far as the squad is considered.

Isco played 899 minutes in LaLiga this season, making more than twice as many appearances off the bench as he did starts. Does that sound like a player important to Real’s plans? For the amount of money he is making, Real could find someone cheaper to fill that same role. And at the age of 29, Isco is basically wasting the last of his best years as a backup player.

That spot in the squad could go to Martin Odegaard. Or someone else. Maybe even a promising midfielder on the transfer market like Houssem Aouar.

Whatever the case, Isco had a meager two assists for Real Madrid in the league this season and was a backup. He barely got to play in ideal positions for his skill-set. Isco is already on the fringes, and Real might as well admit that they have no place for him in their squad.
