Real Madrid have been linked with signing Kylian Mbappe for as long as recent memory suggests and they may get their man this time around.

With Kylian Mbappe having refused to renew his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, talks of his potential move to Real Madrid have started to expedite. In spite of turning down a new deal from the Parisians, the French marksman remains keen on staying at the Parc des Princes and will not create a ruckus in order to depart the club this summer.

However, there is more than just Mbappe involved in this. PSG will certainly not want to suffer a bumper windfall by losing him for free this year, instead of the supposed 150 million euros they will receive if they sell Mbappe this time around. Moreover, Real Madrid have to make a statement this summer especially if they let Manchester United’s target, Raphael Varane follow Sergio Ramos to the exit door.

Florentino Perez has called for calm over Mbappe’s acquisition and everything would suggest that the Whites will at least make a relenting push towards signing the World Cup winner. With that said, here is a look at the three reasons why there is an emerging air of imminency over Kylian Mbappe signing with the 13-time Champions League winners this summer.

REAL MADRID DREAM ABOUT SIGNING HIM

Real Madrid rarely ever go without landing the player they are desperate for. The case with Mbappe is no different. In addition to that, the club has also maintained an extremely clean slate of relations with the PSG hierarchy which they hope will allow them to sign the forward. Moreover, he is a dream signing for the Merengues for the present as well as the future.

While they may have to break the bank and stretch to uncomfortable lengths this summer to sign the 22-year-old, Florentino Perez knows better than anyone else, the benefits of signing him. The Madrid chief will no doubt have looked at the financial aspect of signing Mbappe, as it is a department in which he will successfully replace Cristiano Ronaldo too, besides the sporting.

Mbappe is an extremely marketable player and could be the club’s ticket to recovery from the coronavirus. In addition to that, Perez will use Mbappe’s signing as a shield to several of his mistakes which include, but are not limited to letting Ramos and possibly Varane leave in the same transfer window- they were arguably the club’s greatest defensive pair ever.

With the backline likely to ship more goals than in the past few seasons, Mbappe’s arrival may also bring equilibrium in that regard as he will contribute to a sizeable amount of goals.

PSG DON’T WANT TO BE PLAYING WITH FIRE

Paris Saint-Germain will very well know that there is an unimaginable loss in store for them if they let the world’s best youngster leave for free next summer. The cost of keeping him for one year certainly exceeds the cost of getting rid of him one year earlier. Nasser Al-Khelaifi would not want to involve himself in a mess especially after spending lavishly this summer.

He has already signed Georginio Wijnaldum and is on the verge of adding Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Sergio Ramos– all of whom are expensive in terms of bonuses and wages, although the latter two are immune to a transfer fee at the moment.

With such signings, the prospect of suffering from Financial Fair Play ramifications also looms large on Paris Saint-Germain. The hazard of missing out on European football for PSG could harm several other players in the squad as well, let alone the new signings and other future targets.

Mbappe, who has shown no interest in renewing his contract, could be the best bait to recovery from this situation. The French international will yield a sum exceeding 100 million euros and also leverage a freeload on PSG’s wage bill by a significant margin. By not parting company with him, PSG are not just staring at a financial loss, but a sporting one as well.

MBAPPE IS THE FINAL PIECE OF REAL’S PUZZLE, HE MAY KNOW THAT

Kylian Mbappe is the final piece of the long-term sporting project which Perez has strived to build. The likes of Eder Militao, Federico Valverde, and Takefusa Kubo are for the farther future, as are Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo- who at this point may be distant in quality from Mbappe. With a few more great players already in Real’s grasp, Mbappe is the one who will complete a puzzle in Spain.

The 22-year-old is set to take over the reigns from Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, so he will also be a catalyst in influencing which players the club signs in the future. Playing next to one of the world’s very best in one of the world’s very best teams is exactly what an ambitious player wants that, and doing so next to Mbappe two or three years later may be like doing it with Ronaldo now.

PSG have a flamboyant squad but they have little cover in terms of youngsters. Finances will not always bail them out, especially with clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, as well as Real Madrid managing to attract world-class players due to their historical prestige and dynastical dominance in the world of football.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely do you feel it is, for Mbappe to sign with Madrid this summer?
