Liverpool made an offer to the Real Madrid superstar

Real Madrid let club legend Casemiro leave in the summer for Manchester United. There was another superstar though, who is believed to have been weighing up his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And it is a name that will surprise a lot of fans – Karim Benzema!

Benzema is coming off of his best season ever, having guided the team to the Champions League and La Liga title last season, and scooping up the Ballon d’Or for his efforts.

But as reported by El Nacional, Benzema considered leaving Real Madrid in case they signed another star forward in the summer. He had an offer on the table from Liverpool, who were willing to take advantage of the situation.

Eventually, a move did not transpire though and Liverpool went on to sign Darwin Nunez instead, while Benzema remained the main man at Real Madrid.

Benzema has faced his struggles at Real Madrid this season

Benzema might have been the best player on the planet last season. But this time around, things have been quite different. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored just 6 goals and provided an assist till now in this campaign.

The Frenchman has been in and out of the team since the Champions League opener against Celtic, and has struggled to remain fit for any considerable length of time. The biggest problem is that the club do not have a real back up option for him.

One has to also mention the fact that Benzema will turn 35 years of age next month and as a result, sooner or later, Real Madrid will have to start looking for a replacement.

Benzema has been an incredible player for Real Madrid for all these years and everyone at the club must be grateful for his contribution. At the same time though, football never stops.
