Recent rumors claim Real Madrid are interested in AS Monaco’s young French prospect, Kylian Mbappe. Do Real Madrid really need another future striker? And is Mbappe worth the €80 million Monaco would ask for the starlet? Ahmed Genina tells you why Real Madrid should consider staying away from Mbappe.

Kylian Mbappe is by all means a brilliant player at his age. He has scored 19 goals and assisted 5 in 32 appearances this season. In fact, he has been directly involved in more goals than Chelsea midfielder, Eden Hazard (13 goals and 8 assists), a player Jose Mourinho once claimed each of his legs is worth €100 million.

Real Madrid already have striker Alvaro Morata in the first team, Borja Mayoral on loan at Wolfsburg, and Campuzano and Sergio Diaz in Castilla. All of them are in Mbappe’s age range.

Let’s not forget that Monaco will probably request an astronomical amount of money considering the quality and budgets of clubs lining up to bid for Mbappe. So if Real Madrid is willing to buy Mbappe, they might not just need to sacrifice money, they might also need to sacrifice their young prospects, since these players would know they have basically no chance in the first team.

More from The Real Champs

It’s true that probably, only one or two of the above mentioned up and comers for Real Madrid will reach their true potential, yet, doesn’t the same apply to Mbappe? There is no guarantee that he will become the next Thierry Henry, so, breaking the bank for an 18 year old doesn’t seem reasonable at all.

If Florentino Perez wants new players, wouldn’t it make more sense to buy players where Real Madrid need help? The team already lacks reliable substitutes at the full back position, and they will probably need a new goalkeeper. Additionally, Casemiro is weak when joining the attack or pushing up field, despite his two offensively.

So maybe shelling out some cash to an offensively better defensive midfielder like Julian Weigl would do the team more good than adding another “future star” to the roster.

Check out this video demonstrating Julian Weigl’s capabilities. He’s only 21 years old and could be a great addition to the Real Madrid midfield.
