Real Madrid and FC Barcelona could compete for several prospects this summer, as Sao Paulo’s Igor Gomes is reportedly on both teams’ radars.

One of Florentino Perez’s priorities in the current age of football transfers is to sign the best young players in the world for Real Madrid before their values explode. Last summer, he bought Eder Militao from FC Porto and Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt, and he also signed one of Brazil’s best prospects in Santos’ Rodrygo Goes.

In the winter transfer period, Perez added Reinier Jesus to the fold, and the club already have several more talented Brazilian stars on their list.

Reinier was likened to Kaka before signing with Real Madrid, and Los Blancos are reportedly interested in another attacking midfielder from the Brazilian league who is drawing Kaka comparisons.

According to a report from Marco Ruiz of AS, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Sevilla are three La Liga teams interested in signing Sao Paulo’s Igor Gomes. Ajax, who are known for their development of young players, are also interested.

Gomes isn’t a teenage prospect like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, or Reinier were upon signing, but the 21-year-old is highly regarded and has a solid track record thus far at one of Brazil’s biggest clubs.

Per AS, Gomes’ contract has a 50 million euro release clause, which means he would cost Real Madrid a similar fee to what they paid for Rodrygo. Real purchased center attacking midfielder Reinier for 30 million euros from Flamengo in the winter.

Transfer prices are subject to change this summer, so that is something to bear in mind.

Kaka did his best to relieve Gomes the pressure of comparisons, but the Brazil legend did say that the two players share stylistic similarities.

In 2019, Igor Gomes had two goals and two assists for Sao Paulo after being a minor part of the team in 2018 (he and Eder Militao were teammates that season). Gomes was a substitute in more games than he started last season, but he has all the tools to develop into a creative playmaker or a star center midfielder. His versatility is a huge asset.

The interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona is huge, but Gomes will need at least another season to develop at Sao Paulo before a big club considers making a move. But it says a lot that La Liga’s powerhouses and Ajax are interested, and Sevilla are also a club on the rise under Julen Lopetegui.
