April 16, 2014: Real Madrid 2 – FC Barcelona 1

In a crucial Copa Del Rey final shortly before another key cup final match, the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, and without Cristiano Ronaldo who was suspended for accumulated yellow cards, Real Madrid struggled with their hated rivals for the majority of the game. It was Angel Di Maria who broke through for Real Madrid in the 11th minute off a nice low shot that was too much to handle for the Barcelona keeper.

Marc Barata headed home a long header from just inside the box off a corner in the 68th minute to tie the game after Real Madrid had missed several chances to take the lead. But, Gareth Bale late in the game was determined not to let the game go to extra time as he took a pass down the left wing from Fabio Coentrao and beat the goal scorer for Barca, Marc Barata, down the wing to score the game winning goal with 5 minutes remaining in the game.

This win marked the 19th Copa Del Rey triumph for Real Madrid in their history and their fourth finals victory over Barcelona since the competition began.
