A Striker’s a Striker After All

With all of this in mind, why did Benzema deserve to leave the Bernabeau long ago? Benzema is by no means anything less than a world class player. Nonetheless, there was something he lacked.

Although Benzema’s role is more about facilitating attacks, when you’re a striker playing for Real Madrid, scoring is the main reason why Florentino Perez brought you to the Santiago Bernabeu in the first place.

No wonder Benzema’s best season in the eyes of the many Madridistas was last season, his second best goal tally with Real Madrid to date and highest goal per minute ratio (93 min/goal) during his time as a Real Madrid player so far. A ratio that was second only to Cristiano’s jaw-dropping 84 min/goal.
