Midfield

Toni Kroos- 6/10

As bad as it sounds, it seems like Kroos has forgotten how to fulfill the deep-lying midfielder role he dominated in the 2014/2015 season. Easily the least impactful midfielder on the pitch in the match. He showed his lack of pace when attempting to hold the midfield.

Luka Modric- 7.5/10

Luka had a pretty good game. He thrived in his defensive role next to Toni Kroos in the 4-2-2-2 formation, making the most successful tackles in the match and provided good depth going forward. He also had an assist wrongly judged offside, but even that can’t take away why he’s one of the first players on the team sheet. Not too shabby for his 200th appearance, eh?

Isco- 7/10

Isco had a good night, but his performance was just shy of “great”. He finally got the freedom to go where he pleased thanks to Zidane’s tactics for tonight. He started off great, cutting in from the left to a more centralized role, but slowly faded as Real Betis tightened up their defense.

James Rodriguez 6.5/10

What a frustrating night for James Rodriguez fans. The Colombian started the match great. He was involved everywhere on the attack, made some tackles, and offered his precise passes in the first half, and then all but disappeared after he missed a crucial chance. It’s sad, but if tonight was his chance to show Zidane he needs to be in the starting XI, he missed his opportunity.
