Manager Zinedine Zidane demonstrated what Real Madrid can do when the right players play together. For any football lover, and for every Madridista, the minutes preceding Real Betis’s goal (Keylor Navas’ own goal) were probably some of the most entertaining minutes played by Real Madrid this season.

The front four (James, Isco, Morata and Ronaldo) created loads of chances. Although none of them were finished properly, it was pleasing to see Real Madrid having various sources of danger. The free flowing movement and positioning of the forward line made Los Blancos’s attacks unpredictable.

However, the unpredictability was only a small part of what made those minutes so intriguing. The other implications of positional freedom is what’s really interesting. Let’s talk about balance.
