Real Madrid have been getting lots of great youth talent into their academy recently and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. Quickly making a name for himself at Real Madrid Castilla is striker Sergio Diaz. Ben Sundock tells you why Diaz is being labeled as Madrid’s own, younger version of Sergio Aguero.

Much like Martin Ødegaard who is out on loan in Holland, or fellow Castilla player Achraf Hakimi, Diaz is drawing lots of attention from football critics and fans despite only being 18 years-old and still on the Madrid academy team.

With Ødegaard away for a year and a half on his loan deal, Real Madrid fans have zeroed in on Diaz as the next “big” thing to come through the academy. Already being labeled as the next Sergio Aguero, Diaz is considered the hottest prospect in the Madrid B team.

Diaz is a powerful player, who displays good technical ability and scores plenty of goals. He is on the shorter end of the spectrum but, he has been likened to a one-time Madrid target, Aguero, due to his scrappy, shifty, style of play.

Diaz has been with the Real Madrid B team since summer 2016 arriving from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno and despite his short time to adjust to his new surroundings and new team, Diaz has already netted 5 goals in 13 appearances for the Castilla team.

There’s no doubt this kid will one day be competing for a position on the senior squad as Madrid had to pay €5 million for his signing, meaning they liked what they saw in the young striker so much, they thought he was worth the money.

More from The Real Champs

Diaz sits tied with Victor Campuzano, Enzo Zidane and Nikos atop the goal scorers list for the Castilla side, showing that the starlet might be ahead of his time.

Diaz made his debut for Real Madrid against Chelsea in the ICC Champions Cup this past summer, and quickly made friends with two other young Real Madrid forwards, Lucas Vasquez and Alvaro Morata.

The two senior squad members apparently helped the youngster adapt to his new club and his new travel schedule quickly, with media reporting that Diaz immediately felt comfortable after the trip and meeting all the senior team members.

Goal.com reports, “The striker’s career was under threat before it had even began, however, as his parents decided to move to Argentina in search of work. In the end, though, they stayed in Paraguay and a young Diaz went on to shine in the academy at Cerro.”

We may not have to wait too long for Diaz to make his way to the Real Madrid senior squad if he keeps up his already great start to the season for Castilla.
