Real Madrid Reject Liverpool Bid for Marco Asensio

Real Madrid seem to have struck gold with the quick development of attacking midfielder Marco Asensio. The 21 year-old Spanish phenom has flown onto the scene in Madrid, after spending last season with Espanyol and performing well above expectation, Real have utilized the sure to be star a decent amount this season. Liverpool have come knocking on the door of Florentino Perez looking to acquire a great up and coming midfielder in Marco Asensio. Radio station Cadena COPE broke the initial news that Liverpool had lodged a bid for Asensio, with AS later confirming the report.

Liverpool offered Real Madrid €50 million for the youngster from Mallorca. But, Los Blancos quickly answered the offer with a firm no.

Liverpool have very clearly voiced a desire to add some attacking width to their team, and Asensio was considered by manager Jurgen Klopp to be the right man for the job. Florentino Perez, disagreed.

The Bayern Munich sporting director said of Asensio following the Champions League quarterfinal tie that whoever signed Asensio for €3.5m from Real Mallorca should have a monument built in their honor for signing such a great player.

Perez and Zinedine Zidane seem to be fully aware of the potential and current ability of Asensio, so don’t expect to see him going anywhere in the near future.

Asensio has been crucial in filling in for the injured Gareth Bale, replacing him in the first leg against Bayern, providing the game winning assist to Ronaldo. This earned Marco a substitute bid in the second leg as well, and the 21 year-old failed to disappoint, scoring the final goal of the match on a fantastic individual effort.

While Asensio might have been a good fit for the Liverpool squad and the teaching of Jurgen Klopp, it appears that Real Madrid are firmly set on keeping this budding super star.

Liverpool will have to look elsewhere, Marco is in Madrid to stay for the foreseeable future.
