No, that match wasn’t your imagination. Yes, Ronaldo did just notch his second straight hat-trick in the Champions League. Real Madrid played one of their best matches of the season against Atletico Madrid in the Madrid Derby, Champions League edition, winning 3-0 in front of a rocking Santiago Bernabéu Tuesday night. It really seems like we’ve seen this narrative before. And, sure enough, we have.

Facing off for the fourth consecutive season in the Champions League, it was expected to be a low scoring, defensive match between Real Madrid and their cross town rival’s, Atletico Madrid.

That was not what Real and Zinedine Zidane had in mind in this huge match.

Still yet to lose in the Champions League this season (7 wins, 3 draws) Real were clearly the hotter team, despite Atletico coming into the match having lost just once in Champions League play this season, losing only to Benfica at home in the group stage.
