Real Madrid might be down one of their most influential defenders for the remainder of the season after Tuesday night’s 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the UCL semifinal. Dani Carvajal was forced to leave the match with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, the same injury he had to deal with in January. Ben Sundock gives you the full update on Carvajal’s status.

It may be hard to tell from the above video, but this could be a very serious injury for Dani Carvajal, and for Real Madrid if they want to have any chance of winning the league, or repeating as Champions League winners.

Reports from media outlets ,and an official medical statement from the club have indicated that Carvajal sustained a “grade 2 hamstring injury” when jumping to win a header.

Although the medical report is vague, saying, “his recovery will continue to be assessed,” many are fearing for the worst and expecting Carvajal to be unavailable for the remainder of the La Liga.

This injury to Carvajal comes at a terrible time for Real Madrid and especially manager Zinedine Zidane, as his team prepare to play their last four La Liga matches of the season, in hopes of securing the club’s 32nd league title.

Carvajal has been instrumental to the Real attack, and defense in the last month, and the entire season. The 25 year-old right full back has looked sharp all year, making 40 appearances and providing several key assists in big games.

There is a sliver of good out of this news, however, as Carvajal hasn’t been ruled out for making a return to the Champions League Final – of course, if Real Madrid can maintain a 3-0 aggregate lead in the second leg over Atletico – if his services are required.

This ailing hamstring problem from Carvajal is certainly cause for concern for Real Madrid fans, as Dani isn’t the first Real player to be nagged by injury over the course of this season, and his career.
