Finally, La Liga has announced that Real Madrid‘s postponed away match against Celta Vigo in the league will be played on May 17th, at 9:00 PM EEST. The Royal Whites will be looking out not only to secure their long awaited 33rd La Liga title, but also avenge their elimination from the Copa Del Rey at the hands of Celta. Ahmed Genina has more.

Celta currently sit at 11th place in the league standings, four points behind 10th place Deportivo Alavés, with a game in hand (obviously the game against Real Madrid). Celta have had a busy schedule much like Real Madrid, having lost in the Europa League to Manchester United 0-1.

The second leg will be played in Manchester on May 11. 3 days later they are playing again away from home. Alas this time in La Liga against Alaves. After 3 more days they’ll be hosting Real Madrid in The Balaidos.

The odds may not be completely in Real’s favor, as Celta will probably rotate their squad against Deportivo. They have got nothing to lose or win in La Liga at this stage. On the bright side, the Royal Whites’ last match before meeting Celta will be vs Sevilla at home, a team Madrid easily dismantled with 3 goals to nil in the Copa Del Rey earlier this season without even using their full starting line up.

More from The Real Champs

After Celta, Real’s next match will be against Malaga. Although away from home, it is a match Real could win comfortably without needing all (or any) of the starters. This should allow Real Madrid to go all out against Celta without thinking about anything else.

However, despite all this in Real Madrid’s favor, it should be noted that Celta are a very, very tricky team. They have managed to reach the semi final of the Europa League, which is a great feat by Celta’s standards. They have also eliminated Real Madrid from the Copa Del Rey.

Even more, Madrid’s home game against Celta in La Liga this season ended as a very tight 2-1 win for Real Madrid. The winner was solely due to Kroos’s unbelievable curved shot from outside the box in the 81th minute. The match against Celta will define Real’s race for this season’s La Liga title.
