Round-up of all the best celebrations following Real Madrid’s La Liga title.
By Alex McVey
Real Madrid won their 33rd La Liga title after a 2-0 victory against Malaga. Then, the celebrations started, and, knowing anything about the city of Madrid, carried on well into the next day. Here’s a round-up of all the best celebrations from players, coaches, and fans.
Things got a bit rowdy last night in Madrid. Real Madrid had just won their 33rd La Liga title. For those who are unaware of the customs in Spain’s capital city, just know this: when Real Madrid win titles, the city turns into one gigantic party, all lead by the Real Madrid players themselves.
Some players deserved a celebration before the 90 minute whistle had blown. Namely, home-town hero Isco Alarcon, who was cheered off the pitch to a standing ovation.
There were, of course, the on-pitch celebrations immediately following the match, with the team posing for pictures as a group.
Zidane got tossed up in the air.
Shortly thereafter, Real Madrid’s players invaded Zidane’s press conference to celebrate with him. Pretty sure they destroyed some computer monitors in the process.
Morata got in on the action by tackling a member of Real Madrid’s security team. Let’s hope this poor chap was in on the joke.
Isco’s celebration game was top notch.
You can really tell that this guy has fit in so well with this squad. He enjoys being here, and his team-mates love him. There’s even a really close bond between him and the other two players who he competes closest with for minutes, James Rodriguez and Marco Asensio.
Here’s a (slightly intoxicated?) Isco getting a kiss on the cheek from James during an interview.
Here’s Isco and Asensio celebrating together, parroting a line out of a popular spanish movie
For some context, here’s the movie they’re quoting from:
But the real celebrations started once the team got to Plaza de Cibeles.
Despite not being able to play the last few games of La Liga, Dani Carvajal was having himself a hell of a time last night.
Here’s Dani and Cristiano Ronaldo on the mic, leading the crowd in song.
Also, while many at first suspected that it was Isco who grabbed the mic to echo a crowd’s chant directed at Pique, some are now speculating that it was Dani Carvajal who actually was the first Madrid player to join in the crowd’s (slightly inappropriate) chant.
Perhaps not something worth getting too hung up over, given that Barca has gotten in trouble for the same thing before.
The defining moment of the evening was when Real Madrid paid tribute to the Goddess Cybele, for whom the Plaza de Cibeles is named. As is customary, Real Madrid’s captains draped the Goddess with a Madrid flag and scarf, and gave her a kiss.
Sergio Ramos was sure to give us a great view of him and Marcelo adorning Cybele.
Real Madrid’s players weren’t the only ones to get in on the action.
The post-title celebrations at Cibeles are really about one thing: Madridistas celebrating their deep connection to their team.
And the Madridistas were out in force last night. Just take a look at this crowd:
The celebrations weren’t even limited to the city of Madrid, as some cheeky Madrid fans got together in Canaletas, a usual spot where Barca fans gather to celebrate titles.

Real Madrid fans in Mexico even got in on the action, celebrating the Liga title at their own “Plaza de Cibeles”
The celebrations carried on into the next day, as Real Madrid toured the city to present the La Liga trophy.
In more formal attire, Real Madrid presented the trophy to the Mayor of Madrid.
Real Madrid’s players and fans have all earned a well-deserved celebration. Real Madrid’s players and fans alike should take time to soak in the moment, and appreciate getting to watch one of the best teams in European football.
