Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has been the maestro in the midfield since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014. The German international asked to leave the club he made 205 appearances with after they refused to give him a better weekly wage. Kroos opted to join Los Blancos and he isn’t looking back he told reporters yesterday during media day. Ben Sundock has more.

“Looking back at the whole situation now I’m honestly glad that I didn’t agree to terms with Bayern,” Kroos told Sport Bild. “Initially, I had planned to stay if we could agree on a deal, but you can definitely say we didn’t agree to financial terms. In the end, though, it wasn’t only about financial matters.”

Despite his illustrious past with the German Giants, Toni Kroos has no regrets in leaving Munich in favor of Madrid following a very successful 2014 World Cup in which the then 25-year-old Kroos captured the trophy.

And since his arrival in the Spanish capital, it’s been nothing but fantastic performances and even more success.

In speaking with the media at the Valdebebas training center yesterday ahead of the Champions League Final match this Saturday, Kroos was asked to revisit his past. After the World Cup in Brazil concluded, Kroos was intent on signing a new deal with Bayern, matching the terms of two other players who Bayern had signed

After the World Cup in Brazil concluded, Kroos was intent on signing a new deal with Bayern, matching the terms of two other players who Bayern had just resigned, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm. However, the German side wasn’t willing to offer Kroos the same contract.

“After our talks, it was a good time to say: ‘Now I want to experience something new.’ In hindsight, after three years at Real, I can say it was definitely the right move and I’m very happy.”

Kroos is so happy, in fact, that he has floated the idea of staying on for the rest of his career, “I’m happy at Real Madrid and can imagine ending my career here — if all goes well.”

While Kroos was very grateful for his time in Munich, he felt no sympathy for his former club when Real faced Bayern in the quarterfinals of the Champions League this season.

“There’s little place for sympathy in football.”

“If we had gone out I wouldn’t have wanted any sympathy either. I like Bayern, especially my former teammates, but as a sportsman, you have accepted such a loss, which, all in all, was deserved.”

The Spanish media has been infatuated with Kroos, as have Madradistas who have been more than impressed with Toni’s commanding foot-skills and ability to distribute the ball to his teammates wherever they need it.

With the press conference yesterday, Kroos reaffirmed his desire to stay away from the Bundesliga and from Bayern specifically, concluding with:”I enjoyed six

"“I enjoyed six marvelous years at Bayern winning many titles, but the fact is I don’t plan on playing in Germany ever again. I’m not saying that for the first time either. There’s isn’t another option at this level in Germany. The Bayern chapter and also, therefore, the Bundesliga chapter is finished.”"

Real Madrid fans have no need to worry now, Kroos is firmly committed to the club and is clearly enjoying his amount of playing time, the success of the club, and the support of the fans. While some may not agree that Toni is the heir Xavi mentioned, he’s without a doubt a superstar, with much more to come.
