Ah yes, summer is upon us, and along with it, all of the things that we have come to associate with it: ice cream, lemonade, swimming pools, grilling in the backyard, and transfer rumors about Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid. Silly season is here, folks!

It’s transfer season! That time of the year when club football comes to an end, and football journalists are desperate to churn up clicks for their respective rags. So what’s the cure for these journalists’ summertime blues? Linking Cristiano Ronaldo to a transfer away from Real Madrid, of course.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola wrote that a number of clubs are interested in the signature of Real Madrid’s talisman, including PSG, Manchester United, and a host of China’s nouveau riche  clubs. With a supposed price-tag of €180 Million, the services of CR7 would not come cheap.

As, citing A Bola, is also reporting that clubs from France,  England, and China might be in the market for last year’s Balon D’or winner. They point to PSG’s inability to fill a Zlatan-sized hole in their attacking lineup as a reason why PSG might want to get Ronaldo on board. And if Monacao ship out M’bappé, As speculates, Monaco might also have the funds to splash on the Portuguese striker.

But even the transfer tabloid rags have to recognize that these rumors are absurd and that this would never happen, right?

Manchester Evening News reports that Ronaldo has “refused to rule out” a move from Real Madrid back to the EPL to replace Zlatan at Manchester United.

The evidence to support this tenuous claim? When asked by a journalist from Deportes Cuatro whether a move to Manchester United would be possible, Ronaldo responded that “nothing is impossible.”

Also cited as a reason for Ronaldo’s possible departure by the Manchester Evening News is the constant booing from the Real Madrid faithful.  The jeers from the fans apparently have Cristiano bothered enough that he would entertain the possibility of moving back to Manchester just to avoid them.

Yep , he seems really bothered by the Madrid fans. Really unhappy. Totally. Mmm hmm.

Let’s just completely ignore the fact that just days earlier Ronaldo told reporters that he would never be returning to Manchester United.

Or the fact that he said he wants to retire at Madrid at the age of 40.

Or the fact that Real Madrid would never, ever sell their biggest star the year after winning a historic double, during the year that he is almost certain to win another Ballon D’or.

The “Cristiano will leave Real Madrid” headline manages to sell newspapers every single summer. Like death, and taxes, the recurrence of this trope seems eternal, and probably will be until Ronaldo retires from Real Madrid. Hearing that Ronaldo is set to transfer out of Real Madrid is the sure sign that the silly season of the transfer window is upon us.

But, as Regina George reminds us, it’s NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be leaving Real Madrid this summer. The very idea is ridiculous.

He’s just enjoyed one of his best seasons with the club, and even though his overall goal numbers are down, his contributions at the business end of the season are up. Way up.

More from The Real Champs

Ronaldo put the team on his back down the home stretch, and helped deliver the La Liga and Champions League trophies.

The idea that Real Madrid would sell someone who is both a publicity machine and a goal-scoring legend right as he is coming off of a season like that is pure madness.

Real Madrid fans, don’t panic. Ronaldo isn’t going anywhere any time soon. One day, the time may come when Madridistas should begin to discuss the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. But fortunately, that time is not now.

For the time being, just take it all in. Real Madrid just won a historic double. Enjoy the summer. Let the ridiculousness of silly season pass you by.
