The verdict

So, who is the winner in this comparison? It’s a matter for everyone to decide really.

Some would pick Benzema because of his so-called intelligent movement and chance creation. Also for the fact that Zidane himself prefers his countryman since he has been a very successful coach so far. Others would choose Morata because they simply prefer his playing style and work ethic over whatever Benz brings to the table for Real Madrid.

Personally, I’d choose Morata. Not just because of his numbers and work ethic, but also because of an assumption I make about strikers in football. That is: being a good creator is a superb asset for any striker. Nonetheless, being lethal in front of goal is still the main point when comparing strikers. I think the following comparison justifies my assumption.

Robert Lewandowski is regarded as one Europe’s top 3 strikers. But statistically, Morata is slightly a better creator than Lewa. I guess this proves that being a creator isn’t mandatory to be one of the elite. What makes the case for Suarez as Europe’s best striker though, is that he is equally good as a creator as he is a scorer.
