One of Cristiano Ronaldo’s closest friends in the Real Madrid squad is no doubt, Marcelo. And today, the Brazilian left-back eased the minds of many Madrid fans, telling the media that he believes his teammate of eight years won’t depart the club after previous claims.

Marcelo has always been a very vocal person on and off the field for Real Madrid. So maybe, him coming out and saying he’s not worried about Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club is a good thing.

“I am not worried. Many things said in the press are lies. There is no reason for me to be worried,” Marcelo said on a Brazilian TV show. “Of course I speak with him.”

After signing a new contract with Los Blancos in the fall that is supposed to last until 2021, it came as a huge surprise when Ronaldo said he wished to leave the club due to harassment from the Spanish media and claims of tax evasion.

“Cristiano knows what is best for himself,” Marcelo went on to say. “As a friend, not just as a teammate, whatever decision he takes this year, next year, or in 10 years’ time, I will be there to support him.”

While CR7 has remained quiet as to whether the rumors which surfaced shortly before the Confederation Cup were true or not, both President of the club Florentino Perez and now Marcelo have both voiced their complete confidence in Ronaldo returning to the club for preseason training on July 31st.

Ronaldo told Spanish TV, La Sexta, that he wanted to play for Real Madrid until he was 41, which makes me even more skeptical about why he would so drastically change his mind within a matter of weeks.

While the tax fraud accusations are serious, I don’t see it hindering Ronaldo’s on-field production or his ability to score clutch goals like he has in the past. Not to mention, his loyalty to the club has never been in doubt, so why would he turn his back on the biggest club in the world being one of the biggest players in the world?

All us Real Madrid fans will find out what Ronaldo’s future holds very soon, and despite still being nervous, I am confident that the G.O.A.T., Cristiano Ronaldo, will be back in the royal white come August 8th against his former club Manchester United.
