Cristiano Ronaldo’s tax troubles took a turn for the dramatic when Ronaldo was on vacation, as three armed Spanish tax agents boarded and inspected Ronaldo’s rental yacht near Formentera.

Spanish newspaper AS reports that Ronaldo and his family were enjoying their vacation when a dinghy carrying three armed Spanish tax agents boarded the boat to perform an inspection. The inspection lasted about an hour and a half.

Spanish newspaper Hola published photos from the inspection. The photos show armed guards boarding Ronaldo’s boat, and a member of Ronaldo’s family talking with the agents.

As reports that Ronaldo, his girlfriend, and his mother all remained calm and stayed in an interior part of the boat while it was being searched.

The inspection is most likely related to Ronaldo’s ongoing tax problems. Ronaldo stands accused of using shell corporations to shield his image rights income from scrutiny by tax collectors.

Formentera is a small island off the coast of Spain near Ibiza. However, unlike Ibiza, the smaller island is known for its isolation and tranquility rather than its partying and nightlife.

It is not yet known what specifically the inspectors were looking for, or whether anything will result from this most recent chapter in the ongoing Ronaldo tax saga.

It will be interesting to see how Ronaldo reacts to this latest intrusion into his privacy. Given how he reacted the last time his name was dragged through the news regarding the tax scandal, I can only imagine he will be furious.

The last time news erupted about Ronaldo’s tax scandal, rumors began circulating that Ronaldo was angry at Real Madrid and wanted to leave the club. While these rumors have quieted down in recent weeks, this affront may peeve Ronaldo, and we might start seeing “Ronaldo wants to leave Madrid” rumors start back up again.

Let’s hope nothing comes of this. Real Madrid will need Ronaldo in top form next year if they want to live up to their monumental expectations, so it will help to have Ronaldo in a good mental state before the season starts.
