What does Kylian Mbappé’s decision to leave Monaco mean for Real Madrid?
By Ben Sundock
Big news today out of France is that highly sought after striker Kylian Mbappe has told his current club, AS Monaco, that he wishes to leave France in favor of a move to a “bigger club.” How does this affect Real Madrid and their efforts to sign the starlet 18-year-old?
According to L’Equipe in France, Kylian Mbappé has told his current club Monaco that he wishes to leave for a big-money move this summer.
With clubs like FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris-Saint Germain, and Real Madrid the biggest names after the young French striker, it will be interesting to see who can acquire his signature.
Rumors have indicated that Mbappé is pushing for a move to Monaco’s arch rival, PSG, but with reports indicating that Neymar is set to sign with the side from the French capital, it might be difficult for the club to shell out another $200 million for a striker to go alongside Neymar.
So with this news that Mbappé wants to leave his current club, what does this mean for Real Madrid in pursuit of this man’s signature?
We here at The Real Champs have been closely following every single piece of this transfer saga with Los Blancos pursuing the 18-year-old for several months, and the news that Kylian has officially told the club he wants to leave is huge for Real and Florentino Perez.
Real Madrid, of course, will be in close competition with Barca over the signing of Mbappé, and this deal could come down to the player’s personal choice rather than the numerical cost. Both Real and Barca will have lots of money to spend on this incredible player, Madrid because of their smart moves this summer with transfers, and Barca because of the crazy amount PSG will pay them for Neymar (€220 million).
Real Madrid have been in hot pursuit of Mbappé since mid-March, while Barcelona have just begun pushing to sign him.
My gut feeling is that Real Madrid will secure Mbappé because of the lasting connection between him and Zidane both being French, and previous relations with the club dating back to when Kylian was 14.
While there hasn’t been any direct confirmation from Mbappé’s camp over whether these rumors of him telling Monaco he wishes to leave are true, this is good news for Real, who should do just anything they can to add this player who could very well be the next Thierry Henry.
While I am confident in Real Madrid acquiring the striker, they apparently are lining up a backup option which could be very interested. We will be sure to cover that in the coming days.
