Real Madrid has a relatively quiet transfer window to their standards. What should be some of their biggest regrets from this past summer window?
Not Bringing In Kylian Mbappe
After selling Alvaro Morata, people were almost sure President Florentino Perez would show his financial muscle to bring in the young French star, Kylian Mbappe. Unfortunately, that didn’t come to fruition. PSG had just too much money to offer Kylian as well as him still being insanely close to home, which is a big thing at just 18-years-old.
Being a big Mbappe fan myself, I was somewhat devastated by the move. I think bringing him in would have done wonders for the youth advancement in the side. Sadly, Real Madrid will now likely have to play against him in the Champions League.
Not moving Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema
I did an extended column on this earlier in the summer, and now I feel it is more evident than ever. When Ronaldo comes back, Marco Asensio is going to have to be moved from the starting eleven to the bench.
Regardless of how you view it, it is going to stunt his growth; growth from a player we have seen have endless potential. Bale is both getting on in age and has seen his pace dwindle. I have nothing against Bale, honestly, but I think that it would soon become problematic that Bale was not moved on this summer, to bring in Mbappe or to give Asensio a bigger role. That same goes with Karim Benzema.

Not bringing in an extra proven defender
This regret has already been proved.
Real had to play Casemiro at the center back position because of the lack of defensive depth available against Valencia. The team currently has two set defenders at each position, a starter and a backup.
The only thing is injuries happen, especially in the back line, and two of the four back ups are young. I do think this will be a major problem going forward for Madrid and if they aren’t satisfied with their trophy outcome, this will be the reason.
