Real Madrid’s right-back Dani Carvajal just signed a contract extension, extending his stay at the club til 2022, the third player to do so this week.
Dani Carvajal joins Isco and Marcelo in signing new contracts for Real Madrid. All three players have renewed their contracts until 2022.
There will be a ceremony at the Santiago Bernabéu on Monday to celebrate Carvajal’s contract renewal.
Dani Carvajal has been widely praised as one of, if not the best young right-back in the world. While he lacks some of the flair that Marcelo has going forward, he brings to the table more balance and defensive stability.
He also has a work-engine that’s hard to match. You often see Dani Carvajal chugging along in the 90th minute of a match, using his seemingly never-ending gas tank to speed past opposing attackers to bail Madrid out. With increasing pressure on modern full-backs to be versatile, two-way players who can bomb up and down the pitch with ease, Carvajal is well-suited to fill this role.
If Real Madrid’s transfer policy used to be Zidanes y Pavones, it has now become Bales y Carvajales; Carvajal represents the emphasis that Florentino Perez now places on bringing youth through the rank to balance out Madrid’s superstar Galactico signings with players from the cantera.
Carvajal is only 25 years old. It’s often easy to forget just how young Carvajal is, because he seems like he’s been doing big things for Real Madrid for quite some time now. But Carvajal still has his best years ahead of him. If he continues to grow and mature as a player, Real Madrid have a star who will lead them into the future.
Hopefully Carvajal will have a big boost in salary and in his buyout clause, as Lucas Navarrete of Managing Madrid suggests he will. Carvajal is an integral part of this squad, and Madrid wouldn’t want anyone turning his head with a lucrative offer to move away any time soon.
