Real Madrid have been interested in signing Robert Lewandowski for well over a year now. It’s no mystery. After many believed that pursuit was over, Lewandowski came out and told the media after this weekend’s match that recent rumors of his desire to leave Bayern Munich were totally false. Here are the details.
The 29-year-old Polish striker, Lewandowski, is a star. Having been with Borussia Dortmund for five seasons before moving to Bayern Munich in 2014, everywhere Robert has gone he’s been the guy.
So, when I saw the rumors come out Saturday that the man who has scored 82 goals for Bayern in 100 matches wanted his agent to negotiate a move out of Germany to Spain, I was very skeptical.
According to the rumors I’m seeing, Lewandowski has called Real Madrid his “team of dreams.” These rumors are of course just speculation and nothing more.
Following a two-goal outing in Bayern’s win over Mainz, Lewandowski told reporters that he had not made a request to move to LaLiga and wanted to stay with the Bavarian giants.
“I don’t have to comment every time on every bit of nonsense, whether it means something or not, and I don’t have to say something about this bulls—,” the angry Lewandowski said.
There was further speculation about Robert’s status with Carlo Ancelotti and the club after Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge went off on the striker after Lewandowski had criticized the club for a long preseason tour in Asia.

The CEO firey remarks said, “If Lewandowski is complaining about the Asian tour that we went on, then he should know that his supposed dream club Real Madrid spent 24 days traveling in the heat, twice as long as we did.”
It’s truly hard to believe there is this much back and forth going on between the player and club, as the striker has started the year on fire, bagging 5 goals in 4 matches in the Bundesliga and a goal in Munich’s win in the opening match of Champions League group stage play.
Do I think there is a chance Robert Lewandowski comes to Real Madrid in the near future? No, I don’t think he ever ends up coming to the club. First off, he seems happy playing for Bayern and has made his name playing in the German League. Why change at nearly 30?
Secondly, President Florentino Perez and the Real board aren’t about to go out and spend I’m assuming somewhere near €75 million on a player who they would consider to be “old” under their new transfer policy.
I think Lewandowski is a better option than Karim Benzema, but I know for a fact Perez and Zinedine Zidane aren’t looking to make a change like this.
It’s a nice thought, but an unrealistic one.
