Real Madrid fans rejoice! The savior and tactical genius that is Zinedine Zidane has finally signed a contract extension for three more years.

President Florentino Perez works in mysterious ways. Without any hype or even an announcement, Flo signed Zizou to a contract extension to stay at the helm of the thriving first team through 2020.

In his pre-match press conference today after the last training session before tomorrow’s match with Real Betis, Zidane said that his new contract was already signed and the deal was done.

“I feel fine. The issue of renewal is already done, but that does not mean anything. What matters is the day by day and I do not look beyond that. It’s hard enough as it is.”

There had been some speculation a couple weeks ago that Zidane was on the verge of signing an extension with Los Blancos but there was never any more news on the issue. That is, until today.

Zizou remains focused on a congested slate of matches facing his team the coming couple of weeks, so he wasn’t ready to give many details. However, it is clear from Twitter that Real Madrid fans are ecstatic that the manager who has captured two Champions League titles in his first two seasons in charge will be staying for another three seasons.

I have a lot of respect for what Zidane has done in his short time as manager of this team. He has taken Real Madrid from some tough times when Rafa Benitez was at the helm, to now being the best club through and through not only in Europe, but in the world.

Don’t expect the former French star to slow down anytime soon as he remains focused on winning and constantly improving this team.

It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which Zidane gets fired before the expiration of his new deal not only because of his past with the club as a player, but because of what he has done as manager in the last 21 or so months.

It’s a great time to be a fan of Madrid right now. Marcelo, Isco, and Dani Carvajal have all signed extensions to stay with the club through 2022, now Zidane has signed an extension as well.

Let’s keep the positive news coming Flo!
