It’s not typical for Cristiano Ronaldo to be goalless after six La Liga matchweeks. Yet, here we are, going into week seven, and the Dark Invader still hasn’t opened his goalscoring account in La Liga yet.

As Marca report, Ronaldo is 90 minutes away from his worst start to a La Liga campaign. That’s even taking into account his four-match La Liga ban. Zinedine Zidane told reporters that Ronaldo would probably have already tallied at least four goals by now if he had been playing. But even against Real Betis and Alavés, Ronaldo came up empty-handed.

It’s not that he’s been playing poorly, per se. The ball simply has not been able to end up in teh back of the net. Against Borussia Dortmund, Ronaldo showed that he hasn’t lost his golden touch.

Lionel Messi is beginning to mount an enormous lead in the race for the 2017-2018 Pichichi Trophy (for most goals scored in La Liga). If Ronaldo wants to give himself any chance of catching up with La Pulga, who is currently sitting on nine goals for Barcelona, he needs to find his finishing touch against Espanyol.
