Real Madrid youth player, Franchu, will play for Spain not Argentina
By Ben Sundock
Real Madrid youngster Franchu Feuillassier, who was born in Argentina but has grown up in the Real youth academy, will be switching his national allegiance from the South American side, to La Roja. Here are the details.
19-year-old midfielder Franchu will become a Spanish citizen and is likely to play for the Spanish national team in the near future.
According to reports from Marca, the talented Real Madrid Castilla player who was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina doesn’t want to play for the Argentinian national team and will make the switch to the Spanish team.
In a statement from the president of the Argentina FA, Claudio Tapia confirmed that Franchu would be making the switch.
“Argentina exports [footballers] to the world and more and more are going to play abroad,” he said. “One of those is Franchu and we’ve not yet had the chance to have him wearing our shirt. He’ll end up playing for another national team.”
The midfielder has high expectations from Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid fans. Feuillassier was included in the squad for Real Madrid’s preseason tour in the United States and made his debut against Manchester United in Santa Clara, California.
Although he is unlikely to see time with the Real first team for at least a couple more years, once it is official, Franchu will likely get a call-up to the Spanish U-21 team that already features several young Real Madrid players and has been very successful the last few years.
Players such as Marcos Llorente, Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, and Jesus Vallejo have all featured on the Spanish U-21 team and their play has resulted in more playing time with the Real Madrid first team.
Franchu started with Real in 2009, but spent 2011 through 2016 with Rayo Vallecano in their academy.
It is only a matter of time before we see the 19-year-old playing on the Real Madrid first team. We will continue to keep a close eye on him while he’s with Castilla.
