Tuesday’s Real Links: VAR is coming!

La Liga will begin using VAR in the 2018/2019 season
This is a huge step for Spanish league football and fans of the Spanish league. Beginning next season, referees will have the luxury of video assistant referees during matches.
This will allow the officials to review controversial calls and make sure the right call is made. My hope is that this limits the number of penalty kicks awarded (mainly to Barcelona who have had the most penalties awarded in the last 100 matches with 33) and helps to eliminate ghost goals.

RFEF president, Javier Tebas, said earlier today, “Next season there will be VAR in La Liga, without a doubt. We are making lots of progress in meetings about it right now and it will be ready very soon.”
Good move Mr. Tebas.
Diego Simeone will get Filipe Luis back for Madrid Derby Saturday
Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis was able to complete half of his team’s Tuesday workout as they prepare to face Real Madrid Saturday.
Luis suffered a hamstring injury at the beginning of the month and has been resting over the international break in hopes to make a comeback to the Rojiblancos lineup in time for this weekend.
Manager Diego Simeone and the Atleti trainers closely monitored the defender’s status through the first half of the session and was cleared to complete the session.
La Liga side wants to sign Mesut Ozil
Atletico Madrid is interested in signing former Real Madrid midfielder and current Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil after the German international rejected a contract extension to stay in London.
The reports are indicating that manager Diego Simeone is willing to offer Ozil the contract he wants as well as a substantial signing bonus to try and lure him back to Spain.
I hope Mesut has some loyalty to his former club, Real, and will stay in England or if he does leave, not go to one of Los Blancos’ rivals.
