Real Madrid center back and captain Sergio Ramos will be out of the lineup for nearly a month after getting kicked in the face Saturday during the Madrid Derby. Ramos broke his nose and will miss several crucial matches. Here’s a full update on his status.

Sergio Ramos took a shin to the face, bled profusely, and tried to continue playing against Atletico Madrid. However, he was not able to as Zinedine Zidane was forced to pull the captain out of the match as a precaution/

It was confirmed during the halftime break by the Real Madrid medical staff that Sergio had fractured his nose after receiving an egregious kick from Atleti left-back Lucas Hernandez.

Here is the full release from the club:

"“After tests carried out on Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid Sanitas medical team, he has been diagnosed with a fractured nose. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”"

Ramos’ timetable for returning to action is about 2-3 weeks. As everyone knows, Real face Barca two days before Christmas. That is just over a month from now, so Captain Sergio should be back before that crucial fixture.

He did not make the trip to Cyprus on Monday and will stay in Madrid while rehabbing.

Ramos took to Twitter to assure the Madrid fans he was okay.

The tweet says, “I would bleed a thousand times for this badge and this shirt. Thanks for your support. I’ll be back in no time.”

Zidane said he wanted to keep the captain in the match, but was advised against it by the medical team.

With Ramos out, expect Nacho to step into his position alongside Raphael Varane. Jesus Vallejo is healthy again and will likely feature as the third center back if needed for the next few weeks.

Although the injury is nothing serious, Real Madrid should still be frustrated with the kick from Lucas and the no call from the officials.

But Sergio Ramos is an unrelenting beast on and off the field. This injury is nothing to worry about. It is just a minor setback.
