Luka Modric – 9/10:

Once again, Modric proved why he is one of – if not the very best in his position. The Croatian midfielder was nothing short of phenomenal in this game. He put in an incredible effort going forward and backward.

He truly controlled all aspects of this game up until his substitution. His work was rewarded with a sensational 25-yard volley from outside the box which found it’s way into the bottom corner.

Toni Kroos – 8.5/10:

Like his midfield partner, Modric, Toni Kroos was imperious as ever for Real Madrid. The German maestro didn’t put a step wrong throughout the game – spraying passes across the field and remaining as elusive as ever from the men tasked with marking him.

He played multiple pinpoint passes forward which sprung attacks and led to huge chances. He also put in a solid defensive effort throughout the game.

Marco Asensio – 6/10:

Marco Asensio didn’t particularly set the world alight in this game but he also wasn’t ineffective either.

The young Spaniard kept his markers guessing throughout the game and tried his best to generate chances for himself and his teammates. His final product did leave a little to be desired and his crosses were not particularly impressive.

Lucas Vasquez – 3/10:

Lucas Vasquez had next to no effect on this result.

The winger who has seen a stark decline in his form this season often halted attacks and squandered possession by isolating the ball in wide areas. His final product was less than impressive and his defensive efforts were nonexistent.

For large portions of the game, one would have imagined that it was only Dani Carvajal on the right flank. With growing pressure for others to start, it is a wonder as to why Zidane picked Vasquez over the increasingly popular Dani Ceballos.
