Real Madrid managed a later game-winning goal from Marco Asensio in the dying minutes of their Copa Del Rey first leg match at Leganes. Here are three takeaways from the dull match.

Real Madrid are not fun to watch right now

Whatever the case for their recent struggles, whether it be the player’s mental state or the quality of depth, Real Madrid are not the same team as in 2016/2017. They are not fun to watch, they don’t play pretty football, and they don’t beat teams like they did last season.

Mind you, this is a team that broke a world football record with 62 straight games with a goal. That has not been the case this season as Los Blancos have been shutout in six matches. Last season, they scored a goal in every single La Liga match.

Watching Thursday’s match was honestly depressing. Despite winning thanks to a fortunate redirect from Marco Asensio in the dying minutes of the match, it is no longer enjoyable to see these world-class players play.

Even though Zinedine Zidane heavily rotated the squad, it was the Real Madrid “B-Team” that would often come out and score 3-4 goals a match and easily get a win while also resting the regular starters.

Madrid had 68% possession but managed just 8 total shots with 4 going on target. The passing was miserable, and the attack was discombobulated the entire match.

As an avid fan, it is really becoming a struggle to watch these matches. They are boring, sloppy, and generally uneventful. Something needs to change because this team from top to bottom is just not cutting it.
