Real Madrid loaned James Rodriguez to Bayern Munich in a controversial summer move. Now, reports suggest James could return to Madrid if Zidane is sacked.
When James Rodriguez came to Real Madrid from Monaco after his breakout performance in the 2014 World Cup, many thought that he would be Perez’ next Galactico, and possibly a long-term Super-Star replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite a few productive seasons and a number of amazing golazos, James could never quite win his way into an undisputed spot.
That lead to a controversial summer loan move away from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich. The move left many Madridistas scratching their heads wondering why Madrid would get rid of one of their best assets with little-to-no financial return, and to one of their direct rivals in the Champions League.
James has been a strong presence for the Bavarians this season, scoring three and assisting four thus far. With Real Madrid currently struggling to find the back of the net, and serious questions being asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club, many have began to wonder whether we will ever see James back in Madrid colors?
It’s certainly possible. The Express reported that James recently told fellow Colombian national and newly-signed FC Barcelona player that he would consider playing for Real Madrid again, but only if Zinedine Zidane was no longer at the club. Given Zidane’s current predicament in La Liga, it would not be surprising if Real Madrid have a different coach by the time next season rolls around.
However, Real Madrid might not entirely be in the drivers seat when it comes to getting James back to the Spanish capital. As The Guardian reported when James was loaned, Bayern have an option to buy James back at the end of his loan deal. It’s hard to be certain about the exact details of this loan deal, and whether Real Madrid exercise any power in determining whether James could find his way back to the club.

If I were a Madrid fan dreaming for a James return, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. The speculation in the tabloids right now seems just that – speculation. As much as it pains me to say, there’s nothing solid to suggest that James will play another match for Real Madrid.
