Defence

Keylor Navas – 7

The Costa Rican did not have much to do in Sunday’s match as he faced only three shots on target. Unfortunately, a goal in the 23rd minute took a clean sheet away from the keeper as he was left helpless. From there on out, his distribution of the ball was spot on and incredible last-minute antics by the defenders helped out.

Dani Carvajal – 8

The wing-back bettered himself from the midweek Copa Del Rey fixture against Leganes with a stellar performance. Dani completed three wonderful tackles and dribbles up the pitch proving to be a menace to the defense of Deportivo. He was one of two outfield players to not get a goal or assist on the night.

Raphael Varane – 7

There was not much flashy about Varane’s performance but the center-back went in and got the job done as needed. Even when conceding Varane made sure to keep his cool and hold it down for Real Madrid. Raphael had three clearances, passed for an incredible 97% on 44 passes, and totaled six accurate long balls.

Nacho – 9.5

Well, who would have thought that the go-to man would also give Real Madrid the game-tying goal? Nacho rifled home his first goal on the night to bring the game level and then topped it off with a second in the dying minutes of the match. In addition to two crucial goals, Nacho had a perfectly timed near goal-line clearance to ensure the success of his team.

Marcelo – 9

From being doubted and suggestions in the air that Theo should take his place, Marcelo surely came back with a statement for his doubters. Marcelo had two assists on the night, the first leading to Nacho’s goal to the tie up the game and the second resulting in Bale’s effort to push Real ahead. Along with two assists, the Brazilian was extremely active on the pitch completing the second highest number of passes while also totaling seven tackles.
