Reports have increased that Real Madrid is interested in Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah. Will Los Blancos pursue the in-form Egyptian this month or during the summer?

Despite playing in England for five months now, pacey right-winger Mo Salah could make a move to Real Madrid if the club come calling. Salah has become a target for several clubs this fall after an incredible first half of the year with Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has set the Premier League on fire with 18 goals through 21 starts and two substitution appearances while also impressing in the Champions League with five goals and an assist through the group stage.

Salah has jelled perfectly with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino as The Reds sit fourth in the league with 14 matches to go.

Liverpool signed Salah from AS Roma at the beginning of July for €35 million with Salah having been in Italy for two full seasons (one on loan). Salah has jumped around a lot during his career, as he was owned by Chelsea for three years but only featured in 13 matches.

The reason Salah’s move to Real Madrid has gained so much traction is because of the comments made by the FA president of Egypt earlier this week. “If an Egyptian plays for a club as popular around the world as Real Madrid, it’s going to be great for Egyptian football.”

The president, Hany Abo Rida, said that Real will make a bid for Salah likely during the summer. This, of course, has scared many Liverpool fans as they fear losing another big name.

The Egyptian national team manager, Hector Cuper, said in December, “Without doubt he is the star of the team, but what has helped us to qualify (for the World Cup) is the humility of all the team, including Salah,” Cuper told the Spanish media in December.”

“Salah is a very good player who has the ability to play for Real Madrid without doubt.”

So, the Liverpool faithful have a good reason to be afraid of losing the man who won the CAF African Footballer of the Year for 2017.

Could this move happen this month? No way. Could it happen during the summer? Absolutely.

With his history of staying at clubs for a short amount of time, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mohamed made the move to Madrid if the defending La Liga and Champions League winners came calling. He has the skill, pace, and finishing ability that make him a world-class forward; something Real Madrid would love to have at their disposal.

However, in order for this deal to happen, a couple of things need to change. With Gareth Bale occupying the right-wing currently, he would either need to move more centrally in the formation as a striker, or leave the club.

With his recent form, I don’t think the latter is an option the club or the player are considering. Therefore, another forward or midfield player would likely have to leave the club. I’m not sure who exactly that would be but something would have to change.

This would be a great move for both the club and the player and I seriously hope this deal happens soon.
