After an incredibly quiet month, Real Madrid will reportedly be making no last-minute signings this month. But why?
After a very quiet summer, the club hailing from the Spanish capital has had an even quieter winter transfer window with no players arriving or leaving the club.
With a little more than 24 hours remaining before the window officially closes, reports have indicated that Los Blancos will not make any moves at all. With players such as Dani Ceballos, Marcos Llorente, and Borja Mayoral drawing interest from clubs across Europe, President Florentino Perez will not make any moves to sell these players or sign a big name.
Manager Zinedine Zidane has made it clear that he is happy with his squad and is not interested in making any changes. At the beginning of the month Zizou said, “Until January 31 we will be attentive to what the market can offer.”
As the month and struggles have progressed, Zidane has become more and more adamant that the team doesn’t need any new players to succeed. However, the team’s recent form would say otherwise.
Marca has reported that Real Madrid has officially closed up transfer window talks, doing so early Tuesday morning.

As a fan and close follower of the club, this news is rather disturbing. Despite back-to-back big wins in league play, Real still sit 19-points back of first place FC Barcelona and were embarrassed in the Copa Del Rey quarterfinal second leg late last week.
Madrid has shown interest in several big-name players this month such as Harry Kane, Mauro Icardi, and David Luiz. The club was close to signing Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, however, the Spanish international just recently inked a new deal to stay with Bilbao.
But why is the club so set on not bringing in any players at all? That is the question of the season. This team is in a downward spiral (for Real Madrid’s standard).
In a season where the team is on pace to go trophyless, it makes no sense that there wouldn’t be any new players signed at all.

Maybe there is a big behind-the-scenes plan going on that we don’t know about for the coming summer, but for now, all we can do is speculate and worry.
