Cohesion

One of the more apparent partnerships in recent weeks has been Marcelo and Asensio. The pair hasn’t appeared together many times, however, when they do it produces results.

It was seen for the third goal at the Mestalla against Valencia when they combined for the goal scored by Marcelo and once again against PSG. The two cover for each other quite well and also complement each other going forward. Asensio and Marcelo were a consistent problem down the left flank against PSG for the 11 minutes they played together.

With quick and clever one-twos, overlapping runs, and consistent threats  – they ran Dani Alves rough-shot.

With a lot of fans clamoring for the return of the 4-3-3, playing Asensio on the left wing makes complete sense. Ronaldo’s days as a left winger are well and truly over. However, we saw that his combination play with Asensio and Bale flanking him is well and truly fantastic. With Benzema seemingly a stale figure – is it time to bury the BBC and progress to the MCB?
