Real Madrid loanee James Rodriguez has thrived with FC Bayern Munich this year with more regular playing time. So much so that Bayern want to sign the Colombian permanently. Will it happen?

To say his time with FC Bayern has gone well would be a mighty understatement. Since joining the Bavarians over the summer on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid, James Rodriguez has shown the footballing world that he is still a world class player capable of starting in any team in the world.

Through 16 appearances in the Bundesliga thus far, James has started 13 scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Comparing that to his stats from the 2016/2017 year with Madrid, the Colombian midfielder played 1,180 minutes in league play making 13 starts and nine substitution appearances. He is just 51 minutes shy of equaling that total from last year with a little less than half the season to play.

Because of all his success in Germany and his regular playing time, Bayern wishes to sign James on permanently. According to reports from multiple outlets, Bayern has the option to buy Rodriguez this summer for €35 million due to a clause that was agreed upon in the loan contract.

The Bavarians sent Real Madrid €10 million just to make the loan deal happen and Real could make more money off of James this summer. Los Blancos spent €35 million to bring James over from AS Monaco following the 2014 World Cup. So, financially speaking, Real Madri can come out of this deal with a profit.

Wilson Rodriguez, James’ father, told reporters late last week that his son’s move to Germany was a very good thing. “It was a good thing for my son to leave Real Madrid for Bayern Munich, as he is now very happy,” he said.

“He is now living a calm and happy life which mean his performances on the pitch improve and despite his love for Madrid, the best thing he could do was move on from there.”

While many critics speculated that there was some kind of feud between James and Zinedine Zidane, Wilson Rodriguez was quick to shut down those speculations. “Zidane was one of his idols growing up, but he decided my son did not have a spot in the team…however, he will never criticise Zidane for that or anything related to football.”

While I loved James’ time at Real Madrid and would love to see him continue to play for the club in the future, it doesn’t seem like it is possible at this point. After enjoying his play with Bayern and getting more playing time, it makes sense for a player of Rodriguez’s caliber to stay where he is wanted.

For some reason, Zizou’s stubbornness wouldn’t let James break into the lineup with regularity despite coming off the bench many times as a ‘super sub.’

It would be best for both parties if Real Madrid agreed to terms with Bayern and moved on from James Rodriguez.
