The BBC can still be a force to reckon with

Zidane tried a new formation with Bale in this match, playing him on the wing with Ronaldo and Benzema up front; and it largely worked. Bale had more defensive duties in midfield but used his pace well on the wing and provided a few good passes.

Benzema was stellar in his link-up play, assisting both Ronaldo and Bale for the first two Madrid goals. He should have had a goal of his own but was ruled offside in a contentious call. Ronaldo, as usual, was sharp in the final third.

Overall, the BBC played very well together. It was also the first time since April 2016 they all got on the scoresheet together. Yes, it had been that long.

Most people have written off the BBC as an attacking force, and the criticism has been well deserved in most cases. However, they showed that they may still be capable of reviving Madrid’s season.

A special mention for Lucas Vazquez, who is in the form of his life right now and is pushing Zidane for a starting berth. His productivity is second to none, and he can be an effective partner for the BBC.
