Best and Worst Performance

Best Performance

Thankfully for Los Blancos, their biggest match of the season thus far was also their strongest performance. Real Madrid faced off against Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

Many were doubtful that Madrid would be able to withstand the firepower of the Parisians. Real showed that the Champions League really is their competition as they held PSG to scoring just one goal. Madrid went on to win the match with a 3-1 scoreline, a result that shocked Europe as they have been poor in their domestic league.

Los Vikingos showed the world that they are far from finished.

Incredible performances from both Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo put Madrid back on top. Marco Asensio added to the glory as he was substituted into the match and turned the game on its head. The Spaniard assisted his squad with two goals in under 11 minutes.

Worst Performance

While Real Madrid was much stronger this month, it seemed to all fall apart in their last match of the month. Their seventh and final game came against Espanyol where they lacked the cohesion and fluidity they demonstrated earlier on.

Espanyol had also beaten Barcelona and Atletico Madrid this season and had no mercy with Real. In the dying minutes of the match, the defense of Real was stretched allowing a bouncing shot to burst the net of Navas’ goal.

It was not so much the loss of the three points that hurt but the lack of effort displayed by the team. Many players looked lethargic and out of sync.

Real Madrid looked like a shadow of themselves with abysmal passing and poor performances from big players such as Gareth Bale.
